Training and Events
H-L Therapy training and events include online and face-to-face CPE workshops and seminars for NDIS and mental health practitioners. Our training offers theory and practical information about a range of assessment and goal-setting procedures as well as customised therapeutic tools and approaches for supporting people with mental illness and disability.
Our training supports allied health, mental health, and disability practitioners in developing or improving their therapeutic and clinical assessment skills so that they can practise with confidence in disability and mental health practice settings. Examples of professionals who attend H-L Therapy include social workers, developmental educators, psychotherapists, counselors, and other professionals who provide psychosocial therapeutic support and practice from the principles of social justice, human rights, and respect for diversity.

Functional Capacity Training for social workers. H-L Therapy Functional Capacity Assessment Training is specially designed for social workers engaging in the NDIS sector. It provides a comprehensive framework, knowledge, and insight from the practitioner’s perspective. It covers the types of functional capacity assessments, assessment domains, and indicators for Functional Capacity Assessments by social workers, professional and NDIS guidelines that inform our practice in this area, and discipline-specific and multidisciplinary assessment instruments that may be used for cross-validation of results The functional capacity data can be further strengthened by using a range of other discipline-specific and mental health assessment instruments, information about which would be provided in the training. On Demand Functioning Capacity Training for Social Workers. Multidisciplinary Functional Capacity Training. This 3.5 hours training is currently available live online. It is designed for developmental educators and other health or allied health professionals. After completing the training, participants will be able to define a rationale behind Functional Capacity Assessments, demonstrate practical knowledge for conducting Functional Capacity Assessments, and become familiar with the NDIS and multidisciplinary guidelines and knowledge base that guide and support our practice in this area. The participants will also be able to demonstrate practical knowledge about functional domains. and apply a holistic framework for assessing and organising functional capacity information, and writing comprehensive FCA reports.

Therapeutic Goal Attainment and Outcome Measures in NDIS and Mental Health is a 2.5-hour training for NDIS and mental health clinicians, therapists, counselors, and psychotherapists. It is available live online,
In the mental health and NDIS practice there is a prerequisite to incorporate the goal measurement outcomes as a part of everyday practice and the importance of having evidence-based measures is frequently emphasised. This training explores what and how of therapeutic goal setting, goal attainment, and outcome measures in psychosocial therapy that are different to the ones commonly used by physical therapists. We would explore how to implement these goal measures into everyday therapeutic practice with the clients and into therapeutic reports so that the therapeutic efforts and clients’ goal attainments can be measured, analysed, and evaluated.

NDIS Therapy and Counselling and How to Make it Work. This 2.5 hour online live training is designed for social work therapists, counsellors, psychotherapists and other psychosocial professionals who are providing therapeutic supports to NDIS participants. Based on years of therapeutic service provision experience in the NDIS sector, this online training provides information and ideas from the therapist’s perspective on how to design, organise and implement your own therapeutic toolbox and resources for successful client engagement, participation, and NDIS goal achievement. It offers an overview of customised therapeutic techniques and tools that can be applied in social work therapy, counselling or psychotherapy clinics to effectively engage clients with psychosocial and intellectual disabilities and neurodiverse needs.
